Chronovarium is a collaborative, interactive artwork exploring ideas of ecology, human agency, and how land and seascapes as we see them now are formed by the history of their changes through time. Users are invited to choose their own path and see how their decisions shape a miniature ecosystem.
Chronovarium is a collaboration between Dr Emma Rehn and Nellie Pease, two artists with shared backgrounds in Deep Time research and science illustration. Dr Emma Rehn is a research communicator, Quaternary scientist, and scientific illustrator; her work can be viewed at https://emmarehn.com. Nellie Pease is a palaeoartist and illustrator with a background in archaeology, zoology and palaeontology; a selection of her work can be viewed at https://www.instagram.com/gondwanarama/.
Chronovarium was developed for display during the 18th Biennial Conference on Communication and Environment, 2025.
We would like to thank Dr Adam Rehn for creating this website and Dr Cassandra Rowe and Dr Samantha Tol for their input during concept development.
